Social Listening

I have chosen to write about Dr. Squatch. It is and has been one the fastest growing men's soap and hygiene brands. I personally love this brand and knew I was going to write about it the moment I was told about this project. All over social media you can see many different mixed emotions about the brand and their products though most of them are positive. I love the brand's quality and their creativeness when it comes to their products and advertising.

Dr. Squatch’s value proposition is offering high-quality, natural personal products specifically designed for men. The main focus in their advertisements is centered around the all natural ingredients they use. This separates them from a lot of big name companies that use cleaning chemicals and detergents.

If you look across any of Dr. Squatch’s social media platforms, you’ll likely see their comment section riddled with positive and humorous comments from their followers. One quick search and you’ll find comments such as “I love your soap, been using it for 2 years now!! Congratulations on the 1 million (followers) @drsquatch” -chef_crean_ to which Dr. Squatch responded “LETS GOOOO! Thanks for being along for the ride Chef!”. Another common comment you’ll see are ones like where UNCeASOND CHiCkEN EATer wrote “Y’all got the best body wash ♥️” Dr. Squatch responded with “Appreciate you homie 🙏”. As I stated before, you can find these comments just about anywhere you look but they aren’t just about their body wash. You can find comments about their other products too. V_Sereda wrote “The best deodorant” Dr. Squatch responded by saying “REAL”. These are just a few examples of the many positive comments that they receive across all their platforms. They have built up a reputation for their playful banter between them and their fans which has proven to only boost their brand in a positive way.

Dr. Squatch is most popularly known for their bars of soap. They have upwards of 15 base scents that you can pick and choose from including some of their most popular ones like Pine Tar, Fresh Falls, and Bay Rum. They also come out with limited edition scents when they partner with big names such as Harry Potter, Marvel, and Star Wars. Do not let this distract you from the rest of the amazing products that they offer. From the Dr. Squatch website, you can buy things such as Deodorant, Hair wash, Shave products, Colognes, Soap holder, and more.

Dr. Squatch has a very effective marketing approach that they take. The company launched in 2013 but began to really take off in 2017 when they hired comedian James Schrader to star in advertisements for them. The uniqueness and humor within their ads caused them to catch wind and Dr. Squatch racked up over 120 Million views and over 100,000 Shares across platforms such as YouTube and Facebook. Since then they have grown tremendously over many platforms earning them a combined 2.7 Million followers over different apps such as TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook. They have big name celebrities in their commercials such as Sydney Sweeney and Justin Herbert that give them a strong pull among a younger male audience. They also do partnerships like I previously stated where they team up with popular television brands that give them an even greater pull among die-hard fans. Dr. Squatch also does a tremendous job with engaging with their fan base through social media. They post very frequently across all of their platforms and respond to their followers in a way that makes every response feel personal.

Though I feel that Dr. Squatch has done a great job with their marketing, I feel that there could be some improvements that would help them gain a little bit more popularity. They come out with new limited edition scents all the time and something that I would do if I was in control would be to listen to the fans suggestions from time to time. Maybe once every 3 months I’d do a poll to see what would be a limited edition scent that the fans would like. In all of their comment sections you see suggestions and I think that it would be a brilliant idea if they made some of their fans' ideas into a reality.

This was an incredibly fun assignment and I got to learn a little bit more about the marketing strategies and tendencies of one of my favorite companies. I also discovered along the way about how Dr. Squatch could improve and potentially grow their brand.
